Question about 1900 Circa French Violins?

Question by Cocoa: Question about 1900 Circa French Violins?
Hello, sorry I’m completely new to violins and I don’t know much about them but I found a 1900 Circa French Violin online and was wondering if they are worth buying. The description of this violin was “1900 Circa French Violin in good condition. Mild restoration needed. The instrument is made by the Mirecourt French School around the 1900 period. It bears the facsimile label Henri Farny + Cie, Paris, France.

Back: maple slabcut (Blumenschwarte)
Top: spruce divisi med. wide grains
Scroll: original workmanship, black edged
Varnish: redish amber color walnut-stained ground”
Also, how much do you think it would be worth because they had said “Make an offer”. Thank you! icon biggrin Question about 1900 Circa French Violins?
Ah, this violin was on craigslist so I would meet up with the person and try it out.

You should NEVER buy a violin online. A written description might be accurate (or not!), but it tells you absolutely nothing about the way the violin plays and whether or not it would be right for you. You need to try ANY instrument before committing to buy it. If the seller of the violin won’t release it for a trial, then forget about it and go to a reputable violin dealer or luthier.

Question by : can you paint some windows and skirting, doors that were varnished about three years ago and are well done?
The client wants me to paint the skirting, doors and windows of her bedroom that were varnished when the house was built about three years ago. I am concerned about the amount of time it will take to strip the wood ?? or is there a undercoat and gloss that you can apply straight on top.
